Before I give advice, I try to make sure that the advice I'm giving is actually advice I would follow myself. I try to put myself into the other person's situation and think about if someone gave me that advice, would I follow it? I figure that if I wouldn't even follow my own advice, then I probably shouldn't be offering it. I also try to make sure that the advice I'm giving is constructive (not destructive) and is sensitive to the person's feelings. What do you think about before you give advice?
Is it something I've been through, or something I studied in school. What do you think about before you give advice?
I think about what the person I'm going to give advice to is telling me
My sister always asked for my advice. Then she moved far away form me and now I can detect that really what she needs is for me to agree with her. So what I try to do mostly is just listen and say when I agree that makes since.
I try to think of the best possible way to reach the person in a loving and caring way. Not to sound harsh, or like a know it all, but to show them that I sincerely care about them and have an open mind.
Well, with some things I know the answer right off that I want to give, but I often look up info before I answer to avoid giving the wrong advice. I usually look up things I've never heard of before I decide not to answer a question. It's sometimes pretty educational for me to answer questions. Also, I think of the safety of the person. I don't wanna tell someone to do something and then they decide not to go to the doctor and then wind up having more problems.
