Why do girls want to buy brand name (expensive) stuffs? 10 points for the best advice. Thank you?

I don't get that at all.

I have to admit that I am an economics person. I am a college student. I am poor;therefore, I bought the cheapest stuffs on the store.

The weird things are people love what I have. They always complement on my cheap clothes and shoes... :)

Two years ago, my class mate really wanted to buy the shirt I wore in class. She offered $30. I just bought it for $8 :)

I was like damm...Why do girls want to buy brand name (expensive) stuffs? 10 points for the best advice. Thank you?
There’s no definite reason why you should buy designer stuffs over normal name brand labels. Some women just naturally need high-end labels while others acquire the taste for luxury over time. Most women prefer designer labels because it completely changes both their image and their self confidence. High end labels are a clear indication of success, wealth and status and, whether we admit to or not, most people are judged (at some point or another) by the way they look. So, they indulge in a wardrobe of haute-couture clothing because it will make them look and feel fabulous and the pay-off will definitely be worth the cost in the end.

Some people don't have much patience and decide that they don't want to look for the bargained down stuff....they like cute stuff and have a lot of many so they decide to spend it......maybe their idea of cute is different from yours, and their idea of shirts are more expensive...who knows?
some people just like to show off brands or that they have alot of money.
They buy brand name stuff that cost an arm and a leg because they try to impress others!!! My hat is off to you for buying cheaper things that look good! You have your own mind and aren't out impress or compete with others, your just being yourself and your right, I do the same thing, I have money, enough to buy the better things, but I love a deal and I find things that look good and get compliments. I'd rather spend my money on better things, like birthday parties for the family, and their gifts, I go all out for a family birthday party with food and decorations and they love it and that is what makes me happy. Good for you, you can have little money and still look good!! p.s. some are just spoiled rotten also, ha.
A lot of people wear it b/c they feel that they will ';fit in'; if they wear the hottest brands. It is mostly teens and college girls who fall into that category. For some, though, you figure out that for the most part, higher priced items are better quality and last you a lot longer than a cheaper brand would. As an example, not long ago I bought a pair at heels at Wal-Mart. Within a month they were worn out. On the other hand, I have had shoes from Steve Madden and BCBG for years. So, if you think about it you are saving money in the long run. Not that someone cant look JUST AS NICE in cheaper clothing!
It's all about image. Girls want to look the best or have the best clothing. They want to thrive and be popular. It's really weird. I'll bet if there were a designer bag for $1,000 and a fake that looked just like it for $30, they'd buy the real thing. It's a jungle out there and if you want to be at the top of the popularity ladder, then you have to look good.
I think it is because they might feel special if there clothes cost more....I know that I don't buy them because there expensive, but because it is what fits my body right. I have a hard time finding clothing for my body. I know that my friend buys it because she thinks people notice her more if shes wearing hollister or abercrombie.... I'm not sure though... I know i've bought some really expensive clothes after I saved up, but it's not always worth it....Maybe they just don't get it...I don't really know.
I am right with you. When I was in college and a single parent I was dirt poor. We had next to nothing. Now that I'm married and working with a much better income, I still won't spend a lot of money on expensive stuff. Especially beauty products, I've tried everything from department store to drug store brands. I always buy the drug store brands and believe me it works. I'm 40 and I have no lines, wrinkles, or discolorations on my face at all. I shop at Goodwill and buy my clothes on the clearance rack. You don't have to spend big bucks to look well-groomed and classy. 2D
usually brand name stuff is more durable like coach if the bag ripes or gets ruined they will give you a brand new for free, like i bought a babyshirt at the dollar store and it ripped when i took it out of the bag
hello first of all alot of them think expensive clothes make the person but it dont alot of them that wear them they personailty sucks they have no sex appeal no brain its just empty and they the ones draws be dirty and under their smell stink.clothes dont make a person its how you carry yourself as an indiviual.
we may be cheap but our clothes sure aren't ;-)

*hides face in shame*

i think it's almost as if they're worth something. might sound stupid but if i'm walking down the street in something that was 30 which i could have got for 10...i feel better, like i'm cooler?? i'm like that when buying from certain shops too.

also it could be down to our modern society...i mean i've bought cheaper stuff and i have friends who liked it but wrinkled their noses when they found out where i bought it...so maybe part of it is rooted in our material obsessions and human insecurities.

i'm afraid it differs from person to person. one may like to brag about designer labels, others may want to feel better about themselves, others may want to fit in. and other simply like the stuff better, whether it's for style or fit.

designer clothes are generally a better quality though, due to the high price, so people may buy fewer clothes from there to last longer, that they really like, whereas others shop in places like Primark to buy lots cheaply, to keep only a few months (growing teenagers etc.)

i don't know...i'm babbling. *shuts up and goes to corner* x
You go girl! I love going for cheap stuff that is cute! People want brand names because usually they have reallly cute stuff, which is totally true, but what they don't get is they could just go to Ross or Marshalls for something almost like it but cheaper!!!!
because we like to make ourselves feel special, therefor we wear the expensive designer things. And that way if we were wearing sometihng from say wall mart and someone came up and was like omg (lol) I saw that shirt for like 5 dollars at wall mart, you would feel uncomftorable, but if you were wearing something designer people could never tease you around.
It depends. Some people genuinely like a brand's clothing. Others, who practically have Abercrombie and Fitch stamped across their forhead, just want the status symbol that the brand gives you. Honestly, it really makes no difference. If you have no taste, you'll look like crap no matter what.
i think its because they want to feel like they belong and aren't like the ';outcasts'; or ';losers';

or they want to show off there parents money :p
well i think most people buy like abercrobie, aero. , hollister, and more because they want to seem rich. and popular people wear them to keep up they're social status.unpopular people wear them because it gives off the appearance of popularity.hope i help yah.peace +%26amp; lovee.jessica.
I think that what people don't realize is that what makes your style cute and look good is if it looks good on you and flatters you. People think that automatically everything they wear from a brand-name store (Hollister, Abercrombie, etc.) will look amazing on them and make them cool. But honestly, I've seen a lot of people that look like crap wearing those expensive clothes. You can get a much better look by just buying cheaper clothes but ones that look good on you and are your style.
some women are like SHEEP...

they get fed all this B/S from gay guys in the fashion industry who secretly really want to be women...
Many people like the style so many people buy, therfore its expensive cause so many people
i don't think it matters either, but as long as you like what you buy and you are comfortable in it, then buy it regardless of anybody else
There are multiple variables to this situation.

Some people want the brand name, the ';it'; label, or currently fashionable look... this is what designer labels bank on... and there are enough people that are of the mindset that ';cost equals quality'; that this market portion will never be underserved, because they are pure profit centers.

Some people want high quality construction (which includes specific cuts and materials), though this tends to be seen moreso with menswear and suits than with women's clothing... and luxury materials tend to cost, and a brand name label will have a certain level of quality to which the lines will traditionally adhere to.

More often, people will gravitate towards the first group, as it require little of your own effort and knowledge... you just follow what the magazine or tv says. You'll typical overpay if you're of this mindset, and as most people don't have unlimited finances, you may be left holding the bag for a while if a certain look quickly falls from favor.

However buying clothes just because they are ';cheap'; tends to be a bad idea as well, unless you're treating them as disposable goods.... natural fibers tend to wear and endure better than synthetic, hi-grade leather lasts and wears longer than sub-grade leather.

Sometimes, you're better off buying a classic item in and pay as much as you can afford for it, as it will end up looking better, lasting longer, and being more cost effective than a chain of cheaply produced goods.
some girls do it to fit in.

some just like it and buy it.

like me. if i REALLY like something i get it. [ if i have the money of course]

but usually i wait for stuff to go on sale and buy it [brand name stores]

and i get good deals.

but it all depends on the person.

i dont buy stuff just cuz is brand name. i buy stuff cuz i like em. other wise. they stay at the store.
Girls always seem to compete for the best stuff. Also it boosts self confidence a little when you can tell everyone how expensive your clothes are and brag i guess. But i say if u can find cheap stuff thats still cute . . . go for it!!!!
I buy my clothes a bit more expensive because they last longer. It's not like I'm buying overpriced clothing. It costs more because the quality is greater. I would rather spend $50 on a sweater at J. Crew and have it last for years than spending less than half that at Target and have it last a winter.

As for other people, I assume some just want to be showy and show off their money, or the money they want you to think they have.
i know exactly how u feel i tend to shop at like platos closet(used clothing store) and i get more compliments then any other girl it seems like... and i just think when ppl have the money...why not? ppl just want the best of the best and when ppl ask them ppl where they get it..they say macys or juicy couture ya know and when ppl aask us we say the good will but they just like being able to say they got it somewhere nice i guess
Many expensive clothes (i'm talking designer), is made of good quality and good of good materials. Many girls want to buy the clothing for those reasons. I agree with this. But also, sometimes the cheaper clothes is better made.

Many other people want to buy designer clothes just to say that they have it, to feel superior than everyone else who doesn't wear them or to flaunt their money. I don't agree with this, i don't think it's the right way to dress.

Also, people buy expensive clothes mainly because they like how the clothes look or fit them. I also think this is an okay excuse. Sometimes girls who are really skinny, or have big hips and a small waist have to buy more expensive jeans because they fit them.

Personally i buy an item of clothing simply because i like it. I don't care about the price, some of the best clothes i've ever bought have been cheap.
i agree with you i get all my stuff on sale and i still get compliments on them
It's not like we really have a choice. You get what you pay for, do you want something that right for you or right for now? That's what I ask my girls when they say they want something. My girls just like stuff that complements their style! it just happens to cost a little more.

And tech gadgets like PC, cell phones, pda's and games are never cheap.

So let me ask again. Do we really have a choice?
This is completely a personal opinion but there are many reasons for the popularity of name brands and why people buy into them.. Since our peers, media, labels, traditions, etc. all shape how we view (or how we think we should view) ourselves.. we tend to buy into what everyone else buy in order to fit in, feel accepted and 'be pretty/in crowd'.

Conformity also plays a part in buying name brand. If you have (or want to portray) the money, status, being apart of the beautiful.. people want to look the part. They want to be apart of the MTV/The Hills/Gossip Girls image, why do you think those shows have the rating that they do?

I am not saying all people who buy name brand, thinks this why and I do agree with the notion that one gets what they pay for.. I am just presenting another side :)
hmmmm....I used to be one of those girls then got wise fast after getting a little in debt. haha....it's not really about the name but I swear if you try on joes or seven jeans (my two favorite's) I have never seen a pair of jean slim me down and make me look great...I look and try to find something else but can't! So now day I go to tjmaxx and Nordstrom rack , and marshalls and they have everything from designer bags, sunglasses and clothes! Also target is great not name brand at all and has great cheap clothes:)
Welcome to Economics 101. Should have sold it to her.

Rule of thumb. Example shoes. Prada expensive but worth it.

Sunglasses like CC. Too much no value. I used to work with high end womens ware and the mark ups would shock you. Blue Fox Sliver fur coats mark up was 1200 %. Quality never goes out of style.
